The best way to think of a "Mobile Optimized" website is simply this: a website that is formatted to effectively display your business information on the small screen of a mobile device. The goal of your website of course is to deliver your product, service, or information in a very enjoyable user experience - one that is easy to view and navigate. 

But another key to this topic is that in 2015, for the first time in history, more people will use mobile devices then desktop/laptop computers to access the web. Simply put, that means if you’re not READY you will likely LOSE out on those customers. Last month, CarTruckTrader.com recived 60% of its traffic from mobile devices - up from 48% just one year ago!

If the above reasons don’t seem compelling enough for you, what if we told you that Google (where over 67% of searches happen on the internet) – will penalize you for not being optimized for mobile? 

On Tuesday, April 21st, Google launched their “Mobile-Friendly” aka “Mobilegeddon” update. According to Google, the update “will boost the rankings of mobile-friendly pages -- pages that are legible and usable on mobile devices -- in mobile search results worldwide. We spoke above about the fact that Google has started to penalize websites that don’t have the minimum requirement, and make sure their site is mobile optimized. But is the minimum even enough? 

Insight from comScore, published in their February 2014 market review, shows the picture that marketers need to build upon. Their panel data shows that the majority of consumers are “multi-screening”, accessing retail sites on mobile or desktop. Consistent experiences across device need to be deployed.
